TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES actress LENA HEADEY has been blasted by fans and feminists for her physique - because she is too “emaciated” to portray the series’ action heroine. The British actress plays Sarah Connor in the TV spin-off based on the sci-fi film franchise, which featured the muscular Linda Hamilton in the role of a cyborg-battling renegade.

But the 34-year-old has come under fire for her slim figure - which some critics insist is a dangerous example of the body-conscious Hollywood’s increasing approval of emaciation. Kym Lambert, a spokeswoman for The Sarah Connor Charm School, an online fan group which claims it is “an art project focused on physical feminist empowerment” says, “We were very upset to find out that a very thin and non-athletic actress had been chosen out of, supposedly, hundreds to play a role that we as physical feminists found so inspiring. We see this as yet another example of the media trying to inspire women to be thin, to ‘keep our place’ (as in not take up too much room) and to keep us from being strong.

“The premise of physical feminism is that women are just as capable of defending ourselves as men, that the concept that we are weaker than men is a cultural myth rather than a physical reality. And Hamilton’s portrayal of Sarah Connor was a key media icon for that belief.”

Actress BLAKE LIVELY has denied reports she’s dating her GOSSIP GIRL co-star PENN BADGLEY.

The pair, who play a couple on the smash hit U.S. TV show, have been romantically linked since Lively split up with her ex-boyfriend, actor Kelly Blatz. But Lively insists she’s just friends with Badgley. She says, “Everybody always tries to dig into your personal life or create things that aren’t there. Actress Michelle Rodriguez began a 180-day jail term in Los Angeles on Sunday for probation violation, the second Hollywood celebrity after Kiefer Sutherland to face a Christmas incarceration.According to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. records, the former “Lost” star checked in to Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, south of downtown Los Angeles, under her given name, Mayte. Michelle is her middle name.

Rodriguez must serve the full stretch in the overcrowded jail, where sentences for minor crimes are often cut short. In November, actress Lindsay Lohan served 84 minutes of a 1-day sentence, while reality TV starlet Nicole Richie was released 80 minutes into her 4-day term in August.

A judge sentenced Rodriguez in October for violating her probation on previous drunken-driving and hit-and-run offenses, and specified that she not be granted work furlough, early release or home confinement.

Rodriguez admitted failing to complete community service obligations. She was also found to have consumed alcohol on at least three occasions while wearing a monitoring bracelet around her ankle, in violation of a probation requirement that she refrain from drinking for 90 days.

The probation violation stems from a 2004 plea of no contest — the equivalent of guilty — to three traffic offenses in Los Angeles, including hit-and-run and drunken driving violations. She was previously sentenced to 60 days in jail for a probation violation in May 2006, but was released after just four hours and 20 minutes due to overcrowding.

Rodriguez rose to fame in 2000, playing a feisty pugilist in the indie film “Girlfight.” She went on to star in such movies as “The Fast and the Furious” and “Blue Crush.” Her “Lost” character, police officer Ana-Lucia Cortez, was killed off after about two dozen episodes.

Sutherland, the star of the action series “24,” began a 48-day term in another Los Angeles-area jail on December 5 for drunken driving.

HEROES star Hayden Panettiere broke down in tears as she recalled her recent dolphin protest in her first TV interview since the Japanese slaughter. The actress was caught sobbing by a local news crew after witnessing Japanese fishermen killing porpoises in Osaka.

The footage has since appeared all over the globe. It shows Panettiere and her protestor pals swimming out on surfboards in an attempt to stop fishermen from slaughtering hundreds of dolphins. The actress was almost stabbed by fishing hooks aimed at the protestors, but felt compelled to show her opposition to the mass killing, which turned the sea red with blood. Speaking exclusively on news show Access Hollywood on Friday (02Nov07), the 18 year old said, “It was painful. It was something that you just look down and said, `Anyone who could do that to an animal like that, there’s gotta be something wrong.’ “It was very possible for us to get hurt, it was very possible for us to be detained by the police. We paddled out there and the fear just went away. “All of us so wanted to go over there with knives and cut them (dolphins) out of the nets and obviously set them free. I’d probably in a jail right now in Japan if I did (that).”

The actress and her fellow protestors were attacked in the water by the fishermen, and she came close to a serious accident when a small boat’s propeller blade almost struck her foot. She added, “I had to actually take my foot out of the water… I kind of almost wanted them to hit me because it would have made that much more of an impact.”

Comedian Stephen Colbert will join the race for the White House after announcing plans to for Presidency of the United States.

The funnyman, 43, plans to run for his native state of South Carolina and will represent both a Democrat and Republican candidate to allow him to “lose twice”. Colbert has been courting rumours of his candidacy but had previously refused to confirm or deny the speculation. But he finally made the announcement on his show The Colbert Report on Tuesday night (17Oct07), saying, “After nearly 15 minutes of soul searching, I have heard the call.”

The animal rescue group at the centre of the Elllen Degeneres dog row have received death threats after the TV presenter mentioned the incident on her show.

The talk show host and her partner Portia de Rossi came under fire by the Mutts and Moms agency after handing over custody of her Brussels Griffon mix Iggy to Ellen’s hairdresser after it fought with her cats. The agency claims the switch violated an agreement it had with DeGeneres when she agreed to house the pet - and reclaimed the pooch from the hairdresser and her young daughters. On Tuesday (16Oct07), DeGeneres issued a tearful statement on her show to explain why she gave her pet away - but the plea has sparked anger amongst her viewers, with some sending vicious threats to the agency. Keith A. Fink, a representative for rescue group owner Marina Batkis, says, “She (Batkis) is adamant that she is not going to be bullied around by the Ellen DeGenereses of the world. They are using their power, position and wealth to try to get what it is they want.”

But DeGeneres’ publicist Kelly Bush insists the host was stunned by the threats, and maintains she has the dog’s best interests at heart. She says, “It’s very upsetting to hear that someone is getting those kind of calls. Ellen just wants the dog reunited with the family.”

THE HILLS star Heidi Montag is adamant she has been targetted by an internet hacker - after a post appeared on her website claiming responsibility for starting a rumour about co-star LAUREN CONRAD’s involvement in a sex tape scandal.

Montag insists a confession claiming she and fiance Spencer Pratt were responsible for fuelling rumours Conrad had made a secret sex tape was fake. The post titled ‘The Truth’ went live on Montag’s site on Monday (15Oct07) night, saying: “Me and Spencer did spread the false rumours about Lauren’s sex tape.” But Pratt tells People.com, “I don’t think (Heidi) would even know how to log in to her website. I don’t even know how to run that. “They’re trying to track down whose IP (address) it was. We got Jack Bauer on it.”

Conrad is at the centre of a sex tape scandal involving ex-boyfriend Laguna Beach star Jason Wahler. She has always denied the tape exists.
