Actor Ben Affleck says that despite his global fame he only has a few friends and one of them is fellow Hollywood heartthrob Matt Damon.

The 38-year-old actor said that over the years he has learnt who his true friends are and is glad that he has known Damon, 40, for the past 30 years, reported Daily Mail online.

“If I was ever in trouble the one call I’d make would be to Matt Damon. We’ve been friends for 30 years. I can’t believe I’m old enough to say I’ve had a friend for 30 years. But he is a friend, and a partner in a company we have together,” said the ‘Pearl
Harbour’ star.

And Damon was the person whom he turned to advice while directing his Oscar nominated Boston drama ‘The Town’.

“He saw ‘The Town’ in five different versions and each time he saw it he presented me with pages and pages of very smart notes. I’ve got to a stage in life where I have learnt who my real friends are. You don’t need many, you just need good, solid friends,” said Affleck .

The two friends had begun their rise to fame with ‘Good Will Hunting’, which was written by and starred the duo and went on to win an Oscar.

Ben Affleck believes that best friend Matt Damon saved him from being a “loner”.

The handsome actor, who starred alongside Matt in ‘Good Will Hunting’, claims he had reached rock bottom when he began school at the University of Vermont and admits he begged Matt to come rescue him.

He revealed to Parade magazine; “I felt alone. Two weeks after I got to Vermont, I called my girlfriend’s room, and some guy answered the phone!

Then, when I was playing an intramural basketball game, I fractured my hip. I was miserable.

I was now on crutches in the coldest university in America, living in the dorm farthest from the main campus, and I didn’t know a soul, nobody!

I ate alone and skipped classes for five weeks.

Then I called Matt, who was at Harvard University. I told him, ‘You’ve got to pick me up! I can’t walk that well. Come and get me now!’

Matt was there in six hours. That was the last I ever saw of the University of Vermont. I never went back. I don’t think I have any credits. It was not money well spent.”

Ben also confessed he can’t stand to be parted from his daughter Violet, whom he had with wife Jennifer Garner.

He said; “The best thing that ever happened to me is Violet. She is happy as hell and talks like crazy!

She has the ability to make me smile and feel so good and be so charmed that, when I’m not with her for a while, all I want to do is go home, just to be around her again.”

Meanwhile, Ben recently admitted in an interview with Details magazine that dating Jennifer Lopez was “bad for his career”.

He said; “It was probably bad for my career. What happens in this sort of bleed-over from the tabloids across your movie work.

I ended up in an unfortunate crosshair position where I was in a relationship and the media mostly lied and inflated a bunch of salacious stuff for the sake of selling magazines. And I paid a certain price for that.”

And Damon reveals it was his young daughter who was the cause. He says, “My 14-month old daughter Isabella did me in – something no killer can.”

Matt Damon and best pal Ben Affleck have such similar tastes that they even wanted the same car once.
Matt tells GQ magazine’s August issue that, before the film stuff came along, both aspired to buy the same car.
Then after their cash windfall from Good Will Hunting, they found themselves in a predicament.
He says, “It was funny, because Ben and I, we both always wanted a Jeep Grand Cherokee for some reason. That was the car. We always talked about it. but never could afford one. So, when we suddenly had the money, we each instantly started trying to convince each other to get a different car.”
“We’d say, ‘Hey, have you seen the Explorer? The Ford Explorer is really cool’.” Best pals out in matching cars? We think it’d be rather sweet.

Hollywood pals Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are writing their first screenplay together since 1997 hit Good Will Hunting.
The pair were unknowns when they wrote and starred in the critically lauded movie, which won them an Academy Award for Best Screenplay in 1998.
Since their success, they have mostly gone their separate ways starring in blockbusters Armageddon and the Bourne movies respectively.
They are currently enjoying a joint holiday with their families in Hawaii, but are finally keen to team up again.
Damon’s spokesperson tells the New York Daily News, “That’s their plan. Whether or not they are doing it right now, I don’t know.”
