Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp has reportedly put himself on a green tea diet in a bid to lose weight for his upcoming movie ‘Dark Shadows’.

The 47-year-old actor is drinking gallons of green tea in order to shed around 10 pounds for the lead role, reported Sun online.

The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star, who recently starred as Mad Hatter in Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’, is supporting the diet with low fructose fruit, such as pineapples and strawberries.

‘Dark Shadows’ is set to be directed by Tim Burton and filming is scheduled to get underway in April 2010.

Set for release in 2012, the film is based on the gothic soap opera of the same name that aired on ABC between 1966 and 1971 and is about the adventures of a vampire named ‘Barnabas Collins’ played by Jonathan Frid.

Winona Ryder’s (35) dad did not allow her to wed her sweetheart Johnny Depp (44) because he thought she was too young for marriage.
The actress was only 17 when she was seeing Depp, with whom she co-starred in Edward Scissorhands.

However, Ryder’s dad Michael Horowitz liked the Oscar-nominated actor and thought that the two were a “hot Hollywood couple”.
In an interview to magazine American Vogue, the actress and her dad have opened up about the sensational relationship.
“They were the hottest couple in the US at that time, like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. You guys were cool,” the Mirror quoted Horowitz, as saying.
“You stopped a wedding,” said Ryder.

“We loved Johnny but you were 17,” replied her dad. And the most beautiful man in the world slipped through her fingers.
Ryder and Depp split in 1993. Ryder went on to date Matt Damon. Depp is currently in a relationship with Vanessa Paradis.

JOHNNY Depp has spoken of his “love at first sight” attraction to long-term lover Vanessa Paradis.

Depp, who has been with Paradis for 10 years and is rumoured to be getting married soon, says, “You have this feeling — I can’t really explain what it was, but I had it when I met Vanessa. I saw her across a room and I thought, ‘What’s happening to me?’ I had no way of knowing how great a person she was or how great a mother she would be.”
Depp added that even when he tried to resist, he felt like Paradis was the one for him.

“I can remember thinking the last thing in the world I wanted was a relationship, but it was impossible to escape. I was gone,” he said.
