Hollywood superstar George Clooney’s representative has shot down reports that he has proposed to his girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis after she was spotted wearing a sparkling ring on her finger.

The ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ star, who has been dating the Italian model and TV presenter since last summer, sparked rumours he was heading to the altar when Canalis was snapped in Italy, smiling while waving her left hand in the air to show off her new piece of jewellery, reported TMZ.

But the 49-year-old actor’s publicist has refuted the claims saying that the “jewellery” was simply a napkin ring Canalis had been playing around with.

Weehawken Police Sergeant Sean Kelly has revealed the accident on Friday (21Sep07) happened when Clooney tried to pass a 1999 Mazda Millenia that was attempting a right hand turn from the left lane. Sargeant Kelly says, “It’s a he-said, she-said right now, but you can’t pass on the right in Weehawken or anywhere in Jersey.”

Clooney suffered a rib fracture and grazes in the accident and his new girlfriend Sarah Larson, who was his passenger, had two broken toes. They were both taken to the Palisades Medical Center for treatment but have since been released.

Clooney and his companion, Sarah Larson, were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The actor’s publicist, Stan Rosenfield, said: “He’s doing fine. He has a broken rib, it’s very painful and it’ll take a long time to heal.”

The Associated Press news agency reports a local police officer as saying that Clooney’s motorcycle had accelerated to overtake a Mazda as both vehicles approached a right turn.

Sergeant Sean Kelly, who is investigating the accident, said: “It’s a he-said, she-said right now, but you can’t pass on the right in Weehawken or anywhere in Jersey.”

Clooney’s publicist told the news agency that the accident occurred after the driver of the car turned right in spite of signalling the other way.

The 46-year-old Oceans Thirteen star is in New York to shoot scenes for a forthcoming film.
